#7 Top Tips to Break Up With Your Diet- Avoid Magazines Focused on Fat Shaming & Weight Loss

Where ever we go, we can't hide from Diet Culture, and today I am talking about the visual messages we see.

Top Tip # 7 is to Avoid The Covers of Magazines focused on fat shaming and weight loss.

I know you know what I am talking about. You stand in line at the grocery store, CVS, Target, or Walmart. There it is; you can't help to see the images.

You see this "celebrity" with their before or after picture featuring them looking their "best" to "worst" with some awful commentary.

The other familiar image is a photo of this human (who is no different than us) looking unimaginable. These horrible images are on a cover for all of us to see and pass judgment on.

Top Tip # 7 to Body Peace & Food Freedom: Avoid Magazines Focused on Fat Shaming & Weight Loss

I work with judgment in Body Peace & Food Freedom, so much so that it is one of my foundational pillars to shift from judgment to curiosity.

Body Peace & Food Freedom Pillars

  • Intuitive Eating

  • Mindful Eating

  • Health At Every Size®

  • Non-judgemental Self Awareness (judgment to curiosity)

  • Self-Compassion

To practice Top Tip # 7, Avoid The Covers of Magazines, I do one of two things. I purposely divert my attention elsewhere or turn the cover magazines around so the person behind me and I don't have to subject themselves to this awful act of judgment and shame.

While the store clerks may not appreciate my actions, my mental health does.
