#5 Top Tips to Break Up With Your Diet- Stop Weighing & Measuring Your Food

For YEARS, I weighed and measured every food that went into my mouth, even during the times that I “broke” my diet or “thought” I wasn’t dieting; it was “just my lifestyle.”

Top Tip # 5 to Body Peace & Food Freedom: Stop Weighing and Measuring Your Food

Unconscious dieting usually happens in the form of meticulous eating habits, which for some of us evolve into disordered eating habits or, ultimately, an eating disorder. My obsession with weighing and measuring food, all in the name of “healthism,” resulted in my disordered eating habits.

The problem with weighing and measuring our food is that it keeps us disconnected from our bodies. As dieters, we don’t trust ourselves or don’t understand our hunger and fullness cues. We rely on everything except ourselves to tell us when we “should” eat and how much to eat.

When we notice our signs of hunger and feel our fullness, we no longer need to be told what, when and how much to eat. We have learned through practice what we need and have discovered satisfaction which is the key to the kingdom of letting dieting go!

Learning to shift from packaged controlled portions, the false safety of 10 almonds or a 3 oz chicken breast leaves us clueless, often not knowing we are hungry and, to our surprise, leads us to be out of control. Goodbye diet, hello me!
